The thoughtless disregard for God’s original command
Segment
of a sermon by Metropolitan Savvas Achilleos of Morfou
Genesis
2:15-17
And the Lord took the man that He had fashioned, and He placed him in
the garden of luxury, to till it and guard it. And the Lord God
commanded Adam, saying: “Of all the trees in the garden, you can consume
by eating; but of the tree for learning of good and evil,
you shall not eat of it; for on the day that you eat of it, you shall
have inherited death.”

All those who won’t condescend to fast... all
those who are afraid of fasting
-
and during the important feast days of Christianity won’t bother in the
least to respectfully fast – mostly worry about feeling hungry by
skipping meals.
Note how things will be, for those who will be
living in the days of the antichrist.
When they begin to hunger out of severe
deprivations, the antichrist will offer to help them, saying: “if you
want me to provide you with food, you will have to accept my seal”.
This
will make them believe that by agreeing to his terms in order to secure
food, they won’t ever feel hungry thereafter.
But of course they will feel hungry
again and unsatiated, even after having willingly accepted to be
“branded” by him...
Then there are those who won’t fast, because
they imagine if they do, they will somehow become sick and suffer harm.
“Fasting
doesn’t interest me” – they say – “I always prefer to eat”...
Go ahead then, my brother – eat.
Just keep in mind that the very first
things that will dissolve away to rot in the soil are the underbelly and
the belly itself – they are the two items that mostly entertain sin
before God. Those who allowed themselves to be controlled by these two
parts of the body will have lost God... they will have lost God... they
will have lost eternity... they will have lost Paradise...
My brethren, food won’t exist in the life to come; there won’t be
tables, or forks of gold, or dishes or glassware... no delicious meals
or splendid banquets...
In that new world, one’s satiety will come
from.... where do you imagine?
What will make people there feel
satiated – never to feel deprived and hungry again?
It will be their ability to see God!
When you can look upon God, you will absolutely feel satiated and never
deprived!
My brethren, may God make us worthy – just as we are all together here,
to all be together there, in Paradise – near Him!
