Reverend Seraphim, Metropolitan of Ioannoupolis, has proposed «a postponement of the meeting in Cyprus for some time» and justifies his proposal with many reasons, among which are the following:

«Already, certain Local Orthodox Churches will be abstaining from this meeting, and those that will participate, will be disagreeing among themselves on the same issue.  The responsibilities of our Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and the others ... are immense, for the safeguarding of the internal unity of the Orthodox Church.

To safeguard Orthodox unity, it is imperative that an inter-Orthodox Meeting take place prior to the meeting in Cyprus, with a common decision on the issue at hand.  The postponement of the Cyprus Meeting for some time is imperative, for the following reasons:

1. The head of the Orthodox Committee for the Dialogue has already clashed with Orthodox Hierarchs who represent Local Orthodox Churches;

2. The subject matter of the dialogue has deviated away from the common decision by the 1st pan-Orthodox Conference in Rhodos, which had clearly prescribed an «examination of the positive and negative points that exist between the two Churches, with regard to the Faith …»
